Abstract

The study of heavy metals in the water column is fundamental, therefore it can contribute in a significant way for understanding the aquatic systems pollution, reassert itself into dangerous contaminants in local and global scale, leading to a stress of the aquatic communities and be associated to the chronic effect to human health. The present work had the aim of analyzing heavy metals found in the water in the Paranaguá Bay. The samples had been collected randomly around the Bay, totalizing ten samples. The opening of samples, using HNO3 was done. In each sample the concentrations of Ni, Fe, Se, Zn, Pb and Cu had been determined by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer method. Of all elements analyzed in the present study, only to Se was detected raised concentrations, above the limit stablished by CONAMA 20/86, being necessary the monitoring of this element in the environment and in its polluting sources.
