Método Multigeração para Avaliação dos Efeitos de Poluentes Sobre a Reprodução de Caramujos de Água Doce

Testes de ecotoxicidade têm sido úteis para nortear ações regulatórias voltadas à prevenção de danos a ecossistemas aquáticos. Os ensaios de rotina são baseados em exposições agudas ou subcrônicas e podem ser inadequados para detectar uma disfunção reprodutiva após prolongadas exposições a baixas concentrações de poluentes. Nesse contexto, propõe-se um método multigeração para avaliar os efeitos de substâncias químicas sobre a reprodução do caramujo Biomphalaria tenagophila. As substâncias testadas incluem dois poluentes ambientais: o agrotóxico endosulfan e o componente químico industrial nonilfenol etoxilado. Caramujos adultos (10 por concentração) foram individualmente expostos a concentrações não agudamente letais por duas gerações. Os efeitos avaliados incluem: sobrevivência, fecundidade e desenvolvimento embrionário. Os resultados obtidos mostram que alguns efeitos adversos sobre a reprodução foram observados somente após a exposição contínua por mais de uma geração. Uma comparação com resultados dos clássicos testes crônicos de curta duração mostra que o estudo multigeração proposto parece ser uma abordagem sensível para avaliar efeitos crônicos de poluentes ambientais.
